The Tether
Stanza 25
I’ll feel your pull as the sun peeks through
That tug, that tightness as though you knew
Our days will be short, though they will feel long
Our days will be few, but soon you’ll be gone
Will I miss your sullen face?
Will I miss your cold embrace?
Will I forget your bitter tears?
Will I forget my threatened years?
Perhaps I’ll think of you on lonely nights
Perhaps I’ll remember when I sit to write
I’ll remember that there’s fight in my might
That no plight could be more forthright
That my light will ignite and burn bright
That despite the fright, I know how to bite, to incite
For once you are gone, I won’t be polite, we won’t reunite
For once you are gone, I’ll have my respite
